MSHP Distinguished New Practitioner Award
Honors a pharmacist practicing in a health-care setting for less than 5 years who has made significant contributions to the practice of pharmacy. This award was established to recognize an individual with distinctive achievements in quality and research, professional engagement, and leadership. The nominee must work in an organized health care setting (for less than 5 years after completed training or degree) and be a member of MSHP.
MSHP Outstanding Service Awards
Honors a pharmacist who has contributed outstanding and sustained efforts toward the success of the Society. The nominee must currently work or have worked in an organized health care setting and be an active member of MSHP. Nominations for this award must include a description of the specific nature and duration of service to the Society.
MSHP Pharmacist of the Year
Honors a pharmacist, for significant contributions to the practice of pharmacy during the past 12-24 months. The nominee must work in an organized health care setting and be a member of MSHP.
MSHP Pharmacy Health-System Award
Recognizes a pharmacy health-system for a specific new program focused on improving pharmaceutical care. The award consists of a plaque to which is added the pharmacy health-system’s name. The plaque is housed in the winning health-system for one year, then passed on to the next recipient. To be considered for this award, the program must be ongoing and must have been implemented within the past 24 months. It must involve the collaborative efforts of a majority of the pharmacy personnel, and interdisciplinary interaction is encouraged. The program must have been shown to have a positive effect on one or more of the following: a) patient care, b) level of clinical competence of the pharmacy staff, c) selection or monitoring of drug therapy, d) quality assurance or improvement, e) cost containment, f) local or institutional community. Nominations for this award must include a description of the program, the date the program was implemented, the level of involvement of the health-system (e.g., all staff members, six of ten staff members, etc.), the scope of the involvement, and any relevant outcomes achieved thus far.
MSHP Pharmacy Resident/Fellow Research Project Award
Recognizes an outstanding residency research project. All Massachusetts-based pharmacy residents and fellows are invited to submit projects to be considered for the MSHP Pharmacy Resident/Fellow Research Project Award. The objective of this award is to promote innovation in the profession through the development of creative solutions to current problems. This award will be given to a pharmacy resident or fellow who has identified a specific problem related to health-system pharmacy practice and has proposed an innovative solution. The outcome must have a positive impact on patient care.
MSHP Preceptor of the Year Award
Honors a pharmacist who has demonstrated excellence in precepting pharmacy students and/or pharmacy residents during the past 12 to 24 months. The pharmacist must be a member of MSHP and precept students and/or residents within Massachusetts. Nominations may be made by any MSHP member and must include how the preceptor creates an exceptional learning environment for the trainee.
MSHP Technician of the Year Award
Honors a pharmacy technician who demonstrates excellence in his/her work and a commitment to pharmacy practice in an organized health care setting. The nominee must have at least two years of pharmacy support experience and must currently be employed in a health care facility. The nominee needs to be a member of MSHP.
MSHP Technician Mentor Award
The MSHP Technician Mentor Award Honors a pharmacist, technician, or pharmacy support staff who has demonstrated excellence in mentoring technicians during the past 12 to 24 months. This award was established to recognize an individual who has shown dedication to the advancement and professional growth of technicians. The nominee must be a member of MSHP and mentor technicians within Massachusetts.
MSHP Student of the Year Award
Honors one (1) student from any of the colleges of pharmacy located in Massachusetts who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and commitment to pharmacy in an organized healthcare setting. Students enrolled in an entry-level pharmacy degree program are eligible, provided they are nominated by a MSHP member. Nominee must have a minimum of 1 year pharmacy internship experience at an organized healthcare setting within the state of Massachusetts.

MSHP DISTINGUISHED NEW PRACTITIONER AWARD
- A current resume or CV for the nominee
- A 1-2 page letter of support from the nominator which should include the required information and highlight the contributions to pharmacy as outlined below
- Examples of significant quality and/or research projects completed and/or lead by the nominee, which may include initiatives to improve patient care
- Examples of contributions to their employer above the expectations of their job, which may include improvement to workflows or other job satisfaction contributions
- Descriptions of the nominee’s professional activities, paying special attention to professional pharmacy or medical organizations
- Descriptions of the nominee’s leadership activities within the organization, their community, or professional organizations
- Examples of dissemination of research through manuscript, oral, or poster presentations outside of the nominee’s institution
- Examples of other professional presentations or publications
MSHP OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD

MSHP PHARMACIST OF THE YEAR
- A current resume or CV for the nominee
- A 1-2 page letter of support from the nominator which should include the required information and highlight the contributions to pharmacy during the past 12 to 24 months as outlined below
- How the contribution or achievement advanced the ability of pharmacists in acute or ambulatory care settings to serve the needs of patients, and Why the contribution or achievement is of significance. and/or
- Record of having led sustained, progressive improvements in pharmacy services within specific Massachusetts hospitals or health systems, and/or
- Record of having achieved state or national prominence (such as through publications and presentations at professional conferences) for practice leadership.
MSHP PHARMACY HEALTH-SYSTEM AWARD
- A 2-4 page letter of support from the nominator which should include required information and highlights the new program focused on improving pharmaceutical care implemented in past 24 months. Including the contributions to pharmacy practice and the success the health system has experienced.
- Application/Nomination should highlight the criteria below.
- Introduction and purpose
- Include the name of the program and the date the program was implemented
- Clear statement of programs purpose and goals
- Significance of the program to the health system
- Highlight the nature of the significance to the overall health system such as improvement to patient care, financial benefits, quality improvement, etc.
- Demonstration of improvements
- Describe your experience with the program and its measurable outcomes, such as improved quality of patient care, reduced medication error rates, cost savings, revenue generation, etc.
- Include how the program influenced the pharmacy practice model in your health system, such as utilization of technology, role delineation changes for pharmacists and non-pharmacists, or improving the patient care opportunities for pharmacists.
- Significance of the program to pharmacy practice advancement
- Discuss innovative aspects of your program, attainment of program goals and implication and importance of the program to advancement of pharmacy practice.
- Introduction and purpose
All nominations for individuals require a CV and 1 to 2 page letter of support from their nominator. Details required in each letter may be found in the below descriptions.
MSHP PHARMACY RESIDENT/FELLOW RESEARCH PROJECT AWARD
- A current resume or CV for the nominee
- Letter of support from residency/fellowship director or project preceptor describing the following substantial contributions from the resident/fellow:
- Conception and design
- Acquisition of data
- Analysis and interpretation of data
- A 1-2 page detailed project summary or a copy of the poster presentation which contain the information described below:
- Significance: Identify an issue or problem, explain its impact on patient care, and describe potential consequences of not improving the situation or of solving the problem.
- Background/impact: Provide evidence of the possible impact of your specific issue or problem on patient care. This should include your background research
- Project/methods: Describe your proposed intervention and how it will solve the identified issue or problem
- Innovation: Describe the potential of this project to challenge and shift current medication use and/or pharmacy practice
- Outcome: Describe anticipated time of completion and expected impact
- Presentation: Please indicate if this has already been presented or when and where it is going to be presented.
MSHP PRECEPTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD
- A current resume or CV for the nominee
- A 1-2 page letter of support from the nominator which should include the required information and highlight the contributions to pharmacy in the past 12-24 months as outlined below
- Exemplary preceptorship ability
- Professionalism
- Promotion of scholarly activities
- Contribution to preceptor development
- Letters of recommendation from previous or current students and/or residents are highly encouraged to describe how the nominee creates an exceptional learning environment for the trainee (student/resident).
MSHP TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
- A current resume or CV for the nominee
- A 1-2 page letter of support from the nominator which should include the required information and highlight the contributions to pharmacy in the past 12 to 24 months as outlined below:
- Affected the outcome of patient care; (and/or)
- Advanced the role of pharmacy technicians; (and/or)
- Advanced the professionalization and ability of pharmacy technicians; (and/or)
- Advanced the pharmacy technician workforce
MSHP TECHNICIAN MENTOR AWARD
- A current resume or CV for the nominee
- A 1-2 page letter of support from the nominator which should include the required information and highlight the mentorship of technician(s) during the past 12 to 24 months as outlined below:
- Please describe the nominee’s current role and how they have been a professional role model in pharmacy
- Please include examples of their mentoring of technicians including on projects, practices advancements, professional engagement and/or community activities.
MSHP STUDENT OF THE YEAR AWARD
- A current resume or CV
- A 1-2 page letter of support from the nominator which should include the required information and highlight the contributions to pharmacy as outlined below
- Examples of contributions to any projects that impact patient care or other improvements in the healthcare setting
- Please describe the student’s involvement in conception, design, data collection, or analysis
- Descriptions of the student’s professional activities and participation in professional organizations
- Descriptions of the student’s leadership activities within the organization, their community, or professional organizations
- Examples of any research, poster, or publications
